This Year’s Competition

This year, Mexico completely changed the competition as we knew it. Lupita Jones’ reign at Miss Universe has ended. Is Mexico becoming the new United States? Now, Miss Universe is hosted there, and the owner of the pageant is Mexican, Mr. Raúl Rocha.

Major Changes Within the Organization

Cynthia de la Vega, a former Mexican beauty queen who was announced as the national director, resigned due to disagreements between recent changes within the organization and her personal values. She was succeeded by former model and actress Marta Cristiana, who also resigned due to the lack of inclusion in the pageant. She stated that the organization refuses to allow transgender women to participate and won’t expand the age range of contestants.

The Competition Begins: Early Highlights

After all the controversy and scandal, the competition finally begins. One of the shining figures associated with preparing the contestants is Osmel Sousa, who also serves as the creative director for Miss Universe 2024. The competition has had a very high budget, and they spared no expense in giving luxurious treatment to the representatives of each state within Mexico, starting with the fact that the girls arrived in a private jet to Cancún and are staying at the luxurious Resort and Spa hotel.

The preliminary competition will take place on September 5th, and the coronation gala on Saturday, September 7th. The show will be hosted by Puerto Rican Carlos Adyan and Mexico’s representative at Miss Universe 2001, Jaqueline Bracamontes, both Telemundo talents. The Venezuelan duo Mau y Ricky will add flavor with their music, and additionally, Miss Universe Mexico will feature some social media commentators to liven up the commercial breaks.

MissUniverseUS.com’s Top 10 Favorites to Win the National Pageant

Here are the top 10 favorite candidates for Miss Universe Mexico 2024 in random order, meaning without specific rankings as we feel it’s still too early to place them in order. However, at the end, we will share who we believe should win.

1-Miss Chihuahua: Valeria Valverde

This delegate loves to admire the small things and gives her best to help others. We’ve never seen a Mexican contestant with this specific prototype in an international pageant, and it would be good to break the mold.

2-Miss Colima: Lorena Sevilla

At 33 years old, she is giving herself another chance in the pageant world. In 2015, she was part of the top 10 at Miss International. Her passion is exercising and health and wellness topics. We believe she is connecting with her audience, as evidenced by her messages in her posts showing a great desire to represent Mexico in the next Miss Universe.

3-Miss Ciudad de México: María Malo

She is 27 years old and passionate about traveling, doing yoga, creating content, as well as fashion, restaurants, and having experiences that can enrich her knowledge. We saw her in 2019 at Miss Grand where she was the favorite for the crown, but her lack of desire to win left her as the first runner-up. The difference between that María Malo and the one we see today is that she is eager to be crowned in 2024. She is the big favorite, with most people seeing her as the winner.

4-Miss Estado de México: Jessica Farhad

She is an artist and fashion designer who thanked the pageant for opening doors for her. “Dreams do come true as long as you have faith in them,” was the phrase with which she began this journey. She is a stunning girl with an amazing portfolio of professional photos. She is a noticeable woman with great taste in dressing and choosing outfits that highlight her physical qualities, like her long legs.

5-Miss Guerrero: Priscila Valverde

She sees herself as a messenger for Mexico’s minority communities. She is Mexican and of African descent, which explains her unique features and unforgettable face with naturally high cheekbones—an impactful beauty.

6-Señorita Querétaro: Esmeralda Mesa

She works in aesthetic medicine and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in pediatric clinical nutrition. During this competition, she has shared professional photos showcasing her best attributes. I love her hair color as it highlights her eyes, and she has a gym-toned body that is truly admirable.

7-Señorita Sinaloa: María Beltrán

The representative from Sinaloa studied English and French, and also practices yoga and Pilates. Altruism has been one of her favorite pastimes since 2017. Seeing her now, she is a girl overflowing with sensuality, and when you listen to her, she exudes sweetness and approachability. She has a lovely voice tone, beautiful eyes, and a voluptuous silhouette.

8-Señorita Sonora: Katia Maldonado

Originally from Hermosillo and 22 years old, she would like to tell people to fight for their dreams and never give up. She has one of the prettiest faces this year, with eyes that convey a lot of spark. Besides that, she has a toned and healthy figure.

9-Miss Veracruz: Leilani Bravo

Despite being only 19 years old, she has a history in beauty pageants. In 2022, she became Teen Miss Universe Veracruz, although not many consider her. She has a particular style that stands out; some even call her the “Mexican Dua Lipa.” She has a sleek figure and long hair.

10-Miss Comunidad Internacional: Ariad Nauro

At 40 years old, she was announced earlier in 2024 as a candidate for Miss Italia. However, she dropped out and decided to come to Mexico instead. This decision sparked much criticism as some believed she had a better chance of winning in Italy than in Mexico. The truth is, this decision was wise. Do you know why? Because obviously, the competition, production, events, and reach in Mexico are superior, and she feels more connected to the Latin audience. She has a strong social media presence, which works in her favor. Moreover, she is enjoying this competition. She sometimes projects a telenovela villain style, but if we look at the positive side, that fits very well, especially in Mexico, where telenovela productions are born. Many would wish to look like that at 40.
