Andrea Radford, Miss Universe Guatemala 2024, shared on NTN24’s Flash Fashion that her decision to resign from the pageant was due to a misunderstanding with the organization. Radford revealed that she initially trusted the information provided by the national organization, which stated that there were no protocols for accommodating her during her pregnancy. However, she later discovered that the decision to exclude her was unilateral.

Reasons Behind the Resignation

In an interview with Flash Fashion, Radford explained that after announcing her pregnancy, she awaited a response about the possibility of participating in Miss Universe 2024. The national organization informed her that the international organization was not prepared to handle a pregnant contestant. According to Radford, this turned out to be a decision made solely by the Guatemalan national organization, not a global policy.

Insights on Participation

“I informed the organization about my pregnancy to confirm if I could participate. While waiting for a response, I continued fulfilling my duties as Miss Universe Guatemala. Eventually, I was told that they could not accommodate a pregnant woman due to a lack of precedent,” Radford explained. She added that, after investigating on her own, she learned that the decision to prevent her participation was made unilaterally by her national organization.

Andrea Radford’s Response and Future Possibilities

Radford chose to maintain a positive outlook and stated, “Things happen for a reason.” Despite her resignation, she is considering the possibility of participating in the pageant next year, as the organization assured her that she had not violated any contract and that she could return in the future.

Reaction on Social Media

Radford’s resignation sparked reactions on social media, with criticism directed at Miss Universe for “false inclusion.” Despite the new rules allowing pregnant women to participate, Andrea Radford could have made history as the first pregnant queen to compete in the pageant.
